With a view to address the issue of gender gap at elmentary level and to promote girls education specially among the disadvantaged groups (SC, ST,OBC & Minority Communities) a new scheme called Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) has been launched in Educationally Backward  Blocks(EBBs) of West Bengal.One High School each from Gopiballavpur-I and Nayagram block in Paschim Medinipur are selected for this scheme. The schools are Baligeria Balika Bidyapith of Nayagram block and Nayabasan Jana Kalyan Girls School for Gopiballavpur block. The objective of KGBV is to ensure access and quality education to girls of disadvantaged group of society by setting up hostel facilities (KGBV Hostel) at existing upper primary girls/co-education schools.

For this purpose , fund @ Rs. 15.00 lakh was sanctioned for constuction of hostel building in favour of 54 (fifty-four) upper primary schools, located at 53 EBBs, covering 11(eleven) districts of West Bengal.
